Congressman Keith Self Joins Letter Calling Attempts Islam into Education

House Freedom Caucus member Keith Self is a founding member of the Sharia Free America caucus in Congress.

Self and fellow House Freedom Caucus Member, Texas Congressman Chip Roy, co-founded the Sharia Free America Caucus to stop what they saw an attempt to impose Islamic values on America.

“The American way of life is under siege by radicals from a culture waging war against our Constitution and Western values. We’ve seen what happens when nations allow this infiltration: countries like France and England are on the verge of losing their identity and sovereignty. The same forces are at play here in America today, and if we don’t stop them, they will conquer our country too,” a press release from Self read. “I am proud to co-chair the Sharia Free America Caucus with Congressman Chip Roy to defend our Constitution, preserve our freedoms, and make America a Sharia-free nation—once and for all.”

Self and other opponents of Sharia Law see the fight as much broader than the federal level.

Freedom and Sharia Free America Caucus members, Self, Roy, and Texas Congressman Brandon Gill wrote a letter to the Texas State Board of Education expressing their concern about principles of Sharia Law creeping into the curriculum taught to students in Texas public schools.

“It has come to our attention that an extensive lobbying effort is underway to have the Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) alter curriculum standards in a way that would diminish American and Texas history,” the letter read.

Self, Gill, and Roy told the board that their main point of contention was language inserted into textbooks claiming that Islam influenced America’s founding and identified the historic Alamo as “an Islamic building.

“The petitioners’ efforts claim that Islam influenced our founding, culture, and way of life,” the letter states. “For instance, the (board) recently responded to public testimony asserting that the Alamo is an Islamic building,” the letter added.

The Congressman argued inserting Islami into textbooks presented students with a misleading account of America’s history.

“Such claims are intended to introduce sensationalized or false history into our curriculum, and it is not the (board’s) responsibility to accommodate flagrant lies or cultivate spurious claims of their belonging,” the letter continued.

Congressman Self and his fellow Sharia Free America Caucus members believe they are not just defending American values, but Western civilization as a whole.
