Illinois Representative Mary Miller is calling on Senate Majority Leader John Thune to use every procedural tool available to advance the SAVE America Act, legislation she says is essential to restoring public confidence in federal elections.
The measure focuses on tightening voter‑verification requirements and restricting access to ballot‑collection efforts by foreign nationals.
Miller said voters across the country have grown increasingly frustrated with vulnerabilities in the election system.
“American citizens deserve secure elections and to know that their votes are guaranteed. They’re tired of fraud and their faith in our elections is dwindling.” Her office has circulated statements arguing that the SAVE America Act would address longstanding concerns about verification standards and ballot‑handling practices,” Miller declared.
The Illinois lawmaker has urged Thune to prioritize the bill as the Senate prepares for its next legislative work period. She said the upper chamber must act decisively to ensure that election‑security reforms reach the president’s desk.
Miller went on to say that “I will continue to fight every day to get that piece of legislation to the President’s desk.”
Miller also highlighted related legislation that recently advanced through committee. She pointed to H.R. 8721, the Preventing Foreign Interference in American Elections Act, which she said strengthens safeguards against outside influence.
“In this committee, we passed HR 8721, the Preventing Foreign Interference in American Elections Act that makes important changes to our election laws by prohibiting foreign nationals from funding ballot harvesting and ballot collection efforts,” Miller declared.
Supporters of the SAVE America Act say the bill would close gaps in federal election law by establishing clearer standards for voter eligibility, ballot‑collection oversight, and verification procedures. They argue that the reforms are necessary to prevent unlawful participation and to ensure that election administrators can enforce uniform rules across jurisdictions.
Miller has framed the legislation as part of a broader effort to protect the integrity of the electoral process, explaining that “This common sense bill put forth by my colleague will help the American people gain confidence in their elections while curbing foreign influence that seeks to undermine our institutions.”
