The House Freedom Caucus sent a formal letter to Speaker Mike Johnson on Tuesday demanding that the next reconciliation package include dollar-for-dollar spending cuts, a complete elimination of green energy mandates, and an extension of abortion-funding restrictions — framing the effort as the last best opportunity for Congress to deliver on its promises to voters.
“Americans want RESULTS. We control Congress — time to run up the score,” the caucus wrote on social media. “Dollar-for-dollar & year-for-year spending cuts. No Green New Scam. No abortion industry funding. Zero tolerance for fraud.”
The letter, dated June 24, 2026 and signed by the caucus Board of Directors, opens with a blunt assessment of the political stakes. “The American people rightfully expect…Congress to deliver real results, not excuses or half-measures,” the letter reads. This is our last and best chance to prove they were right to send us here to fight for them.”
The caucus called on Johnson to ensure Reconciliation 3.0 extends the One Big Beautiful Bill Act’s prohibition on federal funding for abortion providers. “It must include strict dollar-for-dollar and year-for-year spending cuts to restore fiscal sanity, control the deficit, and delay the looming debt crisis,” the letter states, adding that Congress should “aggressively attack waste, fraud, and abuse throughout the federal government.”
Missouri Representative Eric Burlison pushed for healthcare reform to be a central piece of the package. “Stop subsidizing the medical cartel. Empower patients. Healthcare freedom belongs in Reconciliation 3.0,” he wrote.
The letter echoes that demand, calling for “bold Healthcare Freedom reforms that empower patients, lower costs, and expand healthcare choices.” It also urges Congress to build on the existing law’s work “removing taxes on the Second Amendment.”
On defense, the caucus said every dollar of military funding must “modernize our military and deliver clear America First national security priorities.” The letter also raised the prospect of using reconciliation to prevent government-shutdown showdowns ahead of the midterm elections, saying Congress should provide “responsible short-term funding for key government personnel and services” to deny political leverage to the opposition.
The closing lines carry a sense of urgency that runs through the entire document. “Together with President Trump, we must use our unified…majorities to advance a bold, America First agenda,” the letter states. “We control the field — we cannot afford to leave any points on the board in reconciliation.”
With negotiations over the next reconciliation package expected to intensify in the weeks ahead, the Freedom Caucus letter signals that members intend to press hard on spending, healthcare, and social policy as conditions for their support.
